WordPress Rebuild That Replaced Elementor With Bricks for a Derby Architect website on desktop

Extended Ideas is an architectural practice delivering planning, design and consultancy across Derby, Nottingham, Lichfield and the Midlands. Their existing site was built with Elementor but had become clunky, hard to manage and didn't represent the business in the best light.

The brief was to rebuild the site so it was modern, clean and easier to update, without losing control of the visuals.

Key results

  • Faster

    Load times and technical performance

  • Improved

    SEO visibility for local keywords

  • Easier

    Content management for the team

The brief

The Elementor-built site was slow, bloated and difficult to maintain. The goals were to replace it with something faster and more flexible, create a modern layout that showcased the project portfolio, make editing and updating content easy for the team, and improve performance and user experience.

  • Replace the Elementor-built site with something faster and more flexible
  • Create a modern layout that showcases the project portfolio
  • Make editing and updating content easy for the internal team
  • Improve performance and user experience

The challenge

The existing site was built with Elementor. Over time it had become slow, bloated and difficult to manage. Pages were heavy with shortcode and layout markup that made updates cumbersome. The site didn't represent the architectural practice in the best light. It felt outdated and didn't match the quality of the work.

The team needed a site that was modern, clean and easier to update without losing control of the visuals. They also needed a project portfolio section that was simple to maintain as new work came in.

The technical challenge was to remove the dependency on Elementor and deliver a structure that was faster, more robust and built to scale.

The approach

The site was rebuilt using WordPress, Bricks Builder and Advanced Custom Fields (ACF). The result was a clean, modular structure that was both fast and user-friendly.

Build: Designed and built a new site using Bricks Builder with a custom theme. No bloated page builder. Just clean code that loads quickly.

Content: Used ACF for easy content management. Custom fields gave the team structured, predictable ways to update content without touching code or wrestling with layouts.

Portfolio: Created a project portfolio section that's simple to update. New projects can be added quickly, with consistent presentation across the site.

Performance and SEO: Optimised for performance, SEO and mobile usability. The goal was faster load times, better technical foundations and improved visibility for local and industry-specific keywords.

Handover: Provided training and handover so the team could stay in control. The backend is flexible and easy to maintain without design compromise.

The outcome

The new site delivers faster load times and better technical performance. The Elementor dependency has been removed. No more slow, bloated pages.

The site now presents a professional, modern online presence that reflects Extended Ideas' architectural style. The project portfolio showcases work clearly, and the content structure is simple to maintain.

SEO visibility for local and industry-specific keywords has improved. The site is more robust, secure and built to scale.

Why it worked

The rebuild focused on simplicity: Bricks and ACF instead of Elementor gave a leaner, more maintainable structure. The team can update content and add projects without technical support, and the site performs better as a result.

Extended Ideas serves a clear niche: specialist architect in Derby and the Midlands. The new site represents that clearly: professional, modern and built for growth.
